C.E.B.U.

My sister Rossel is on a six (6) months special assignment in Cebu. I’ve never been in Cebu so it’s a perfect timing for me to go on vacation since it’s gonna be free accommodation for me. So I immediately book in a Jan/end flight to explore the beauty of Cebu.

Jan 29: Going down the mountains of Baguio to Clark Pampanga. Happy to fly via Pampanga since I’m not familiar in Manila. Boarded Flight 5J 609. Arrived past midnight and picked up by my sister using their company (Flour Daniels) van with her boss.

Jan 30: Woke up late (10-ish). Wait for my sister to come home and head to Rico’s lechon for lunch. It’s just a 5 to 10 mins walk away from Strawberry Residences (where we stay). I love their spicy lechon, no sauce needed.

After a sumptuous lunch, went shopping at Ayala Mall. You know us girls, we love shopping. We stayed there until 9pm…We bought our Island Souvenir T-shirt, personally styled and cut to suit our personality. I bought an off-shoulder xoxo red blouse and my wedge sneaker at People are people.
Had dinner at Casa Verde which is the famous restaurant inside the mall. Had to wait for 30 mins before we had our tables. Big servings, nice waiters, price and food is OK.

Jan 31: The much awaited tour to Oslob Cebu. Woke up at 3am for our Sumilon Island day tour. Oslob is 3hrs away via van from Cebu City. We have a good driver and was able to ride the 7am ferry boat from Oslob to Sumilon Island.

Sumilon Island is not as beautiful from most of the islands that i’ve been. Actual place is different from the photo in their website. I think the PHP 1800 is too high for the place.
My sister and I took a lot of pictures in the lagoon (where we should be kayaking). No guide given to us so we have to explore the island on our own. No one to take our group picture. Then trekking to see their lighthouse and balauarte. But to my dismay, lighthouse is not what I imagined it would look like. We continued walking towards the snorkeling site. I did not see any fish since you have to swim to the other side of the beach. Just swim on the crystal water in white sands.
We were so hungry so we went back to the area to return the snorkeling gear and life vest. We were surprised to hear that there was a typhoon and need to go back to Oslob. They return the money for the day tour so I was able to explore Sumilon free of charge. Left Sumilon Island at 11am.

Our second agenda which is the Oslob Whale Shark Encounter was cancelled due to the typhoon also. Maybe I’ll have to do this at Donsol Sorsogon.

We went to Tumalog Falls. I really love this place. Although, the road to this majestic falls is really scary riding a habal-habal (motorbike) although road is cemented but steep and zigzag. Our motorbike driver is Richard, my sister’s office mate who lived in Oslob. This is the best falls that I’ve been so far. Water is not too cold and too deep. Plus free water massage.

After that, we head to Richard’s private beach (owned by her Aunt). It’s a white sand beach and you can actually see Sumilon Isalnd. We went to their house for merienda – banana cake, langka and sparkle. We were amazed that they are using corn as their rice. My sister asked for a scoop of corn so we can try it at home. We also stayed at the “Chateau de Tan-Awan” where we took our bath. This is owned by Richard’s aunt also who has a foreigner husband. He is nice and loves to talk with his guest. I was also able to taste the “kulo” fruit. Kulo is a breadfruit. Easy to cook, just cut, dip in flour then fried. Oh so yummy, just like banana bread.

After a day tour in Oslob Cebu, went back and arrived in Cebu City past 9pm. We were so hungry and had to have dinner at Mattia’s barbecue house. It’s really amazing how they cook the “puso”, rice inside a heart shaped coconut leaves. Partner it with chicken barbecue and chorizo, then eat with your hands.

Feb 1: Cebu Day Tour. I felt like a rich girl in Cebu since we have our own Van and Driver, he’s wearing his uniform so he looked like our bodyguard too.

cebu12

First stop is TOPS where you can see the whole view of Cebu City. It feels like I’m in Baguio due the fog and zigzag road. Then went to Lantaw for another photo opt.

cebu13 cebu14 cebu15

Next is the Taoist Temple. We prayed, asked the question but the answer is NO…waaah! I won’t tell the question anymore, it’s something special and close to my heart huhu!

cebu16 cebu17 cebu18

After that, went straight to Yap-San Diego Ancestral House which is the oldest house in Cebu. Love the guide since he knows the best angle.

cebu20 cebu21 cebu22

Then another pic at the Cebu City Marker.

cebu19

Went to Magellan’s Cross, we paid PHP 200 pesos for the ladies to do a dancing prayers for us and offer candles. Hope all our prayers will come true.

cebu23

Went to Calungsod Church. Offer another prayer.

cebu24

Lunch at Manna Sutokil (PHP 2000 for 3 people only). Too expensive but I enjoyed the food although a bit salty.

cebu25 cebu26

Last stop, buy pasalubong – Shamrock Otap, keychains, wallets and my little guitar. 5pm and we are home again.

cebu27

It’s a fun filled day so we still have energy to explore Cebu nightlife. They told us that the perfect place to go clubbing is at Mango Square. The place looks really scary and not safe for two girls. Plus the taxi cab driver looks weird and eerie. My sister had to make a call to our Kuya driver (Cebu City Tour) so that he’ll know that we knew someone in Cebu. We arrived at Mango Square but need to left immediately. Went to IT Park instead. Bought Krispy Kreme and Serenitea for midnight snack.

cebu28

Feb 2: Sunday mass at Sto Nino Church in Cebuano dialect. The mass is outside since the church is still under construction due to the devastation from the recent earthquake that hit Bohol and Cebu last year. Bought candles and Sto Nino outside church for cheaper price and have it blessed after the mass.

cebu29

Then late lunch at Zubuchon. Another famous Lechon house in Cebu.

cebu30 cebu31

Shopping again at SM City Cebu. Girls will always be girls hehe!
There’s also a store nearby selling danggit and pusit. So no need to go to Tabunuan to buy dry goods. Went back to our condo to rest.

Then off to Crown Regency to try their famous Edge Coaster. At first it was scary but became boring, it’s too slow. Thanks to the guide who offered to have our photo opt. Paid PHP 600 for the edge coaster and it has free dinner buffet at Sparks. This is their Valentine Promo which is a good deal for us. Stuffed my stomach with foods again, but this time, fruits and sweets.

Before heading home, need to dropby at East Aurora Condo to get the other pasalubong from Clark (officemate of my sister).

Feb 3: Woke up at 9am to buy lechon at Rico’s as another pasalubong to my family in Olongapo City. I also went to CNT Lechon, but sadly, it’s closed due to shortage of hogs. Went to IT Park to have lunch with my sister at Blue Elephant before my flight. Bought another lechon at Zubuchon for pasalubong.
